RECAP: THE SOURCING PROCESS

The goal of sourcing is to create a list of potential candidates that, at first glance, appear to possess the skills needed for the opportunity in which you are recruiting. Follow the steps listed to execute a great sourcing strategy.

Step One: Pick the job

When choosing which jobs to source for, consider which positions will move the fastest and need coverage, you never want to be late to the party when a hot job comes down the pipeline. You are encouraged to communicate with your team and Account Managers to get a good idea of what jobs to work.

Step Two: Review the job & Complete the Job Order Specs Form

Once you have chosen which jobs to work, take a few moments to review the opportunity. In the job record located in Bullhorn, you should find all the information needed to be able to effectively complete the Job Order Specs form and source for the position. Should any information be missing, please see the Account Manager for information to complete the form.

Step Three: Choose your sourcing outlet

Based on the opportunity, choose which sourcing tool will work best. If you are unsure where to start your search, the best thing to do is ask your team members for recommendations.

Step Four: Develop search criteria

Most sourcing outlets have a search bar where you can enter a Boolean search consisting of keywords related to the opportunity that will help identify potential candidates (review the following section on how to create a Boolean search). When conducting your search try creating a very specific search to see how many direct matches populate and then broaden your search criteria as needed.

Step Five: Review search results

Do not get bogged down with this step, this should be a quick process. A good rule of thumb is to spend no more than 20 seconds reviewing a resume. Quickly scan for keywords that match your opportunity, at the end of your 20 seconds, if you are still unsure if you have a potential match, the best thing to do is to go ahead and add them to your list.

Step Six: Save  potential matches

Once you have identified a match to your search, the best way to save their information is by adding them to Bullhorn. Doing this will allow you to create a candidate record for each match you find, making it easy to keep track of all potential candidates.

Step Seven: Create your call list

Remember, the goal of sourcing is to create a list of potential candidates. The best way to develop this list is to create a call list using Bullhorn’s Tearsheets. Included in this call list should be all potentially qualified candidates you sourced. Create a separate call list for each opportunity, this will help you stay organized. More on how to create a call list to follow.

Step Eight: Execute

Every morning, one of the first things you should do is begin to execute your call list. All the submittals you need for the day should be located somewhere in this list, so burn through it as fast as you can.

One useful tactic to executing a call list is to go it in 15-minute intervals. Take 15 minutes to call as many people as you can off your call list without interruption. Then pause, respond to emails, stand up, stretch your legs, and dive right back into it.
